A perfect self inflicted storm is brewing around Birmingham, which will affect every life in the city and have impacts for years to come.
This Labour administration is dangerously negligent presiding over an accountancy crisis with Oracle, causing the inability to even sign off their own accounts as the largest Council in Europe, we now hear that they need to find £760 Million to settle a matter that they said had been definitively dealt with back in 2012.
To put this into perspective, the entire councils revenue budget- paying for all services for a year is around £750m. This yet again shows that the council is unable to be trusted with the city’s finances and their mismanagement of our taxes and assets is destroying the future of our city.
Drastic measures to come may affect every facet of our lives for years to come and impact the most vulnerable disproportionately and is directly because of Labour’s failure to take action over the last decade. They cannot even claim to have not been aware of this since, as even their own unions have been warning them about this for years.
While Labour cause the problems, it will be ordinary families and residents who will have to suffer the consequences.
Cllr Alex Yip (Con, Sutton Wylde Green), Shadow Cabinet Member for Social Justice, Community, Safety and Equalities, with BBC Midlands Today Giles Latcham
