Inquiry launched into Birmingham’s school transport after parent uproar

Alex calls for resignation of Cabinet Member as seven SEND children are taken to wrong destinations

Birmingham City Council was forced to launch a full independent inquiry into its home-to-school transport service after it emerged that seven children with special educational needs had been delivered to the wrong locations, in what Alex described as a serious safeguarding failure. Parents had been raising the alarm for months, and Alex had been pressing the council in the chamber long before the story broke. When the full scale of the failure became public, he called directly for the Cabinet Member responsible to resign. The inquiry marked a turning point in a campaign Alex had been running since 2016.
