I have written into the Government urging a review into how Birmingham’s Prevent/ Contest Counter Terrorism work is funded.

The amount spent by the Home Office on the government’s counterterrorism strategy fell from £41 million in 2021-22 to £25 million this financial year with Birmingham now receiving only £255,000 – down almost £500,000.

This is despite well-documented and ongoing risks.

“Given Birmingham’s scale, risk profile and national significance, it is essential that Prevent activity in the city is properly and sustainably funded,”
